my name's Guillaume, and I feel best in the mountains!
I come from a family steeped in Alpine adventures, particularly on the Ecrins side, with Gaspard's ascent of La Meije and the Ailefroide epics (great book by Rochette - Ailefroide published by Casterman). The Oisans is very wild. Long valleys hemmed in by magnificent peaks. You feel all alone in the world, and everything makes you want to go up to the summit and see what's going on on the other side.
My in-laws live in Chamonix. When it's not the great wild routes of the Ecrins, I come and take the Aiguille du Midi skip to pick up some mountaineering or skiing lines. In terms of history, we're not badly off. My years of competitive climbing have given me the skills to open up a great playground.
As for endurance, I do a few trail rides when my friends are around, but it's mainly the road bike that gets me going. A good mountain outing, dancing on the pedals, smoking your thighs on a fairly steep % gradient, arriving at the pass and looking at what you've climbed. The descent is an integral part of the pleasure. Whether on the road or on the DH singletracks of the 2 Alps. A bit of thrill never hurts 🙂 A word of advice for road bike enthusiasts: the Devoluy is a magnificent spot for riding that I discovered recently. Top notch.
My only regret is being sick on a pedalo. I persevere and try again each time, but sailing is not my strong point. Kitesurfing trips are done from the shore for me!
Beyond the outdoors, I'm a great traveler. My biggest breath of fresh air is when I immerse myself in a new culture, with its history, its food, its people. I've been lucky enough to travel a lot because of my passion and my previous job. The encounters are very different, but just as powerful. If you have any questions about South and North America, Japan, Eastern China, Korea, Russia, Central Africa, ... I'm your man.
